Reducing Maternal Mortality in Kenya

Eldon Biologicals is proud to join a new ambitious partnership that seeks to end Post Partum Hemorrhage (PPH) in Kenya. The PPH Project is dedicated to tackling the global issue of postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) occurs when a woman experiences excessive bleeding after childbirth, posing significant risks to her health and life.

The project mission is to raise awareness, provide essential resources, and advocate for effective prevention and management strategies. By educating healthcare providers, supporting affected families, and promoting evidence-based practices, the project aims to reduce the incidence of PPH and thus reduce maternal mortality. The project will also contribute to Kenya’s progress towards reaching its SDG targets, as the reduction of maternal mortality is a key SDG indicator.

To effectively address PPH and provide the treatment necessary, a critical part of the project will be to mobilize blood donors to ensure that all women, experiencing PPH and requiring it, can receive the necessary lifesaving blood transfusions. The pregnant women and the newly registered blood donors benefitting from the project will learn about their blood type. For the participating Rhesus negative women this will also provide an opportunity to learn about Rhesus disease and the actions that can be taken to prevent this condition.

Beyond Eldon Biologicals, partners to the project include KOGS, the Midwifes Association of Kenya, the University of Nairobi, and UNICEF. Visit Https://endpph.com for more information on the End PPH project.

On Sunday October 6, 2024, there will be a PPH run in Nairobi. If you are in Nairobi on the day, please grab your running shoes and join us. You can sign up for the PPH run at: https://endpph.com/pph-run-register
