A new exiting initiative to address the shortage of blood donors and improve the treatment of wounded soldiers and civilian alike is soon to commence in Ukraine. The initiative, “The Waling Blood Bank” as it is called, is a partnership between DonorUA, Operation SafeDrop (MAD Foundation), and Eldon Biologicals A/S.
The initiative consists of two distinct phases, a pilot phase that will determine the blood types of 10,000 potential blood donors and encourage them to register with DonorUA to become blood donors. Upon the completion of the pilot phase, the program will go to scale and the aim is to blood type test 5,000,000 Ukrainians within the first year to secure the necessary supplies of blood for treating wounded civilians and military personnel as well as ensuring the continued capacity of the Ukrainian health sector to treat other diseases not related to the war.
