Tonga is known for its rugby team, which is among the best in the world. On January 15, 2022, it also became known for the eruption of Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha-apai. The eruption of the underwater volcano sent ashes rising to 58 kilometers at its highest point, making it likely the highest volcanic plume in the satellite record. The eruption brought powerful tsunami waves and heavy ashfall to islands in the nation of Tonga, severely damaging coastal communities.
In response to the disaster, a number of Rugby players from Tonga have joined hands to support various charities to ensure a better blood donation system. At present, few people know their blood type and even fewer are blood donors. With the joint efforts of the charities involved, the resources generously donated by various rugby players, and EldonCards, we aim to change this. The first batch of EldonCards will leave Eldon Biologicals this week.
